Home Security from West Nile Virus

Is your home a breeding ground for mosquitoes? Do you have stagnant pools of water sitting around? Do you see black algae forming in puddles left on concrete areas with poor drainage? Do you have a birdbath, which you have not changed the water in and no birds are using with moss growing in it? Do you have low areas in your lawn where the sprinklers fill up making a miniature pond? You see you may be a perfect place for a Mosquito to lay 400 eggs ready to hatch and suck your blood.

West Nile Virus is delivered to humans thru our friends the mosquitoes which are well adapted to out live humans with some 500 million years of evolution under their belt; safe to say, they are not going anywhere. They will be around after the human race is extinct and they were here before us. The Mosquitoes suck the blood from birds who have West Nile Virus and then give it to us as the stinger enters the skin and leaves. Viruses are very small and they ride along on the stinger. A female mosquito will only strike once, twice sometimes three times before she has the nutrients to lay her eggs.

To prevent things from being easy for the egg laying mosquitoes it is imperative that you try and eliminate stagnant water or dampness. If you live in a rural area this maybe difficult and once the mosquitoes hatch they home in on the CO2 your body exudes. They are more likely to home in on a farm animal or bird, but people are fine by them. You need to secure your home with screens, do not leave the windows open unnecessarily without screens, close the doors.

I am not advocating mosquito nets to sleep under, what I am saying is if you are smart you can drastically reduce your odds of attracting West Nile Virus, so think on this and make an honest assessment of your home? Are you West Nile Virus safe? Is your home security defense system in place?
